After an introduction and welcome by the group's Chair, Andrew Mason, along with a number of presentations by the Steering Committee, the floor was opened to discussion by the audience of the issues that the new BCS will need to tackle. The audience engaged rather passionately with the need for a BCS, and a wealth of ideas were put forth. The next meeting will see the BCS memership come together to elect the group's first Executive Committee and begin brainstorming ideas for the future. The AGM will be held at Cartwright Hall on the 22nd of March from 7.30 to 9.00pm. 2 February 2006: The Public Meeting is Set The Steering Committee made final plans at its last official meeting for the group's public February meeting at which the Committee will present its work so far and call for candidates to stand for Executive Committee elections at the group's AGM in March. The Committee has taken a command decision to change the group's name to "Bradford Civic Society," so as to be unequivocal about the group's status as an unincorporated association. The public meeting will be held on the 22nd of February at Bradford's historic Cartwright Hall, from 7:30 to 9:00pm. An agenda will be made available for downloading on this site shortly. 29 November 2006: The BCS Plans a Public Meeting 26 October 2005: The BCS Steering Committee Charges Ahead After a successful and exciting launch meeting in July at the Midland Hotel, the Bradford Civic Society (BCS) Steering Committee was formed. The group represents a variety of walks of life, backgrounds and skills. The Chair of the Committee is Andrew Mason, who also happens to be the managing director of Newmason Properties, Ltd., a firm that is responsible for the re-development of Victoria Mills in Shipley. Mr. Mason is assisted by the Vice-Chair, Rashid Awan, who was the first Asian police officer in Bradford and is currently also the President of the Pakistan Society of West Yorkshire. Other members of the committee have a variety of other affiliations, including a local history society, a nearby civic society, the Friends of Bradford Cathedral, the Board of Bradford Gurdwaras, another architectural firm, etc. Over the course of three meetings so far, the BCS Steering Committee has been developing a constitution for the group, and establishing its aims and mission, along with deriving a recruitment and public relations strategy, all based on the insight received from the general public and the BCS's first members at July's launch. The group plans to finish its work by Christmas, and will be planning its first public meeting for sometime in February 2006. It is at this meeting that the BCS will introduce itself to the community and call for candidates to stand for election to the BCS's new Executive Committee. Further details of this meeting will be posted when they are available.
